What is child support?

A: Child support is money paid by the non-custodial parent to the custodial parent for the financial needs of the children of the marriage. By law, both parents owe their children a duty of financial support whether or not they are married. Child support is meant to give the children the standard of living they had while their parents were married. It is also meant to assist in child-care expenses and aid in any educational needs for the children.
